Description

This is home, where the Thundering Cliffs feed the Brightwater River as it carves its path through the forested hills into the Sawtooth Lagoon, which swells and recedes with the wet and dry seasons and drains into the sea beyond. The yearly floods fertilise the soil, bringing bounty to the land, and your people work stone, wood, horn, bone and copper, crafting tools and ornaments. Rarer metals, such as bronze, gold, and silver, are greatly prized.

Some believe in a Great Guiding Spirit and feel a deep connection to the night sky as new souls enter the world on shooting stars, as your ancestors once did in the time of legend. Chieftains and Elder Councils guide your communities, though others, too, may hold sway.

You hunt and herd the abundant herbivores: large longnecks, shieldcrests, broadbills, and stonebacks, and smaller treehoppers. You fish the waters, gather nuts and berries and cultivate a variety of edible plants.

Your communities, like the Sawtooth Clan, Brightwater Traders, and the Stonecrest Nomads, have adapted their lives to the valley’s rhythms, travelling the river or migrating between the highlands and lowlands with the seasons. Large-scale conflicts are rare, but smaller raids and skirmishes do occur.

Beyond your valley, you encounter the salt-washed southern Coasters and the tattooed western Wetlanders from the swampy Caldron, some peaceful, some not. The masked people of the eastern Evergreen Rainforest, however, remain a mysterious and hostile presence.

Ruins of ancient, fallen civilisations hint at a past both grand and mysterious, while the vast array of dangerous beasts like the formidable dread tyrants, and whispered tales of otherworldly horrors in the deepest wilds add fear and wonder to your lives.

The source of the Brightwater River remains a mystery, hidden beyond the tumbling waterfalls of the colossal Thundering Cliffs, guarded by flocks of spearfisher flying reptiles. Yet, there is an unsettling change.

The elders murmur of lower waters and less intense rains, while the dry season feels hotter and drier than anyone can remember. No one knows if the river is truly dying, or if these changes are simply the grumblings of a fading memory.
